Service Description

Who Should Take This Course? Comfortable divers looking for a new challenge and exciting places to explore should consider a wreck diving certification. Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for scuba divers, or lost as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Each wreck dive offers a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others have missed. The Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices. In our back yard the former HMCS Annapolis is the latest artificial reef to be sunk in British Columbia. What makes this reef special is its proximity to mainland Vancouver. A mere 20 minute boat ride our Horseshoe location, will bring you to Halkett Bay, where you can enjoy dives on the 366 foot destroyer class warship. What will you learn? There are many different types of wrecks, some of which are protected by laws that guard their historical and cultural significance. Your training starts by reviewing guidelines for researching and respecting wrecks. During a self study portion and the four dives you’ll learn: Safety considerations for navigating and exploring wrecks. Surveying and mapping a wreck. Using penetration lines and reels to guide exploration. Techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants. DATES: This course will be held on May 2nd-3rd with both days on our charter vessel completing 2 dives each day on the HMCS Annapolis! With an extra dryland session to practice line and reel use. *E-Learning will be required as a part of the course with an additional charge. Please contact the shop to purchase this.
